I'm a bit new to the ps2 scene and would like to know how the ps2 compares to the original xbox in terms of how moddable it is.

I'm talking about modchips vs softmods , storing games and playing them from hard drive, custom dashboards etc.
just wondering if they both had the same capabilities.

also, I was asking in another thread about swapping a chip from a dead ps2 slim to another console. I was just skimming through some posts and saw something about a soft mod. does this eliminate the need for a chip(like the xbox softmod)?

a Soft Mod works only at the old Phat PS2 not on the Slim Version, when you have a old Ps2 try search for PS2 Exploit then you found what you search !!!

xbox is definitely more hdd friendly.

also the modchip is so much easier to install. it's said to be much easier to use xbox as a media center-like device.

so what's the advantage of having a chip then? can I do without one?

I know for the xbox they're not really necessary , you can do everything with a box that's softmodded that a chipped box can.

so , to clarify, this will work on all versions?

can you please post a link to a good tutorial. or just give me a list of the hardware or software necessary and I'll search for the rest.

    thanks.
