What type of laser is in the Silver V10 PS2's?

Is it the KHS-400C or the Sanyo HD7?

A friend wants a v10 premodded with Matrix Infinity and wanted me to ask this.

Also how good is the v10 laser at booting the following media (with romeo mod)?

    CD-R
    CD-RW
    DVD-R
    DVD-RW
    DVD+R
    DVD+RW

He especially uses the highlighted media.

    Thanks.

It should be able to read all those media. For DVD+RW you need to solder the unnamed pad on the Infinity to somewhere I forgot. Maybe somewhere here could tell us.

    So by default v10 can't boot DVD+RW?

Also do you know the laser type?

    My V5 PS2 has the KHS-400R laser.

Also how reliable is a v10 PS2 with the romeo mod done to it?

The LA chip wont fry will it regardless of media used or the amount of hours the ps2 is on for in one go?

    Thanks Tony.

KHS-400C is not the only laser capable of reading DVD+RW. Other laser heads are capable of doing it as well.

How reliable? Uhm, can't answer that question. Some V9/10 come with good laser heads and some comes with bad ones. It's random.

Very rare will the LA chip fry if you did the romeo mod.

So the KHS-400C is as good as the KHS-400R thats found in V5/V6/V7?

And my final question, is the Matrix Infinity the best current modchip for PS2?

Uhm, V5-10 uses KHS-400C. The R type laser is different and crappier.

    KHS-400R worse than KHS400C?

    Really?

I thought it was the best laser, mine boots all media including CD-RW though my PS2 can't boot DVD9 because of the modchip (old Messiah 1) even though it detects what game it is via ARMAX Evo.

The V5R and V6R use the R type laser (open faced Sanyo HD7). I haven't seen many ppl complain of laser problems as much as ppl who complain of laser problems in the V8/V9/V10.

What draws you to the conclusion that the R laser is worse than the C laser?

A guy who installed over 500 PS2s told me that he had bad experience with those HD7. I believe him since he is a pretty good source.

KHS-400C combo with the BA chip is good.

    I've seen more failed 400R lasers than 400C ones. I'm glad my v10 silver has a 400C

Oh and its just since the reduced wire count on the dvd controller that chips haven't booted DVD-RW and +RW, if you solder the F(?) wire then they work. I don't know anyone that uses -RW/+RW so never solder the wire.

    Ian.
