what to burn PS2 DVDs for the first time ... –
hi guys.......up till now i have just been writing PS2 CDs.......i wanna burn ps2 DVDs now......so wats the info on that ?? e.g. the best media ?? best program to use for burning ?? burn settings ??? DVD-R or DVD+R ?? which one is better (i dont know the difference :P )...
my ps2 is a pal ps2 30004R (v5/v6 i think)....
ok a follow up to the above statement.....what is the optimum speed to burn DVDs at for a PS2 game ?? is 8x OK ?
Generally, I burn at the slowest speed to ensure the image is written properly on the discs although I've never had a problem burning at 8x. For DVD-+R\RW media, I normally use Verbatim, Maxell, TDK, Verbatim, or Fujifilm. I've had lots of luck with those brands. As for "+" and "-" formats, I just use whatevers available and what works. Maybe someone here can enlighten us on the technical differences when we're talkin about games. And here's a good link for both of us, I found this using the "search" function!
some ps2 will not read +r but most will read -r so to be safe use -r.
I use Verbatim and Ritek and never had a problem
burn at no more than 4x and you should never have any problems
use dvd decryptor, its so easy, its free, and works perfect
yeah verb's are good and ritek's. but i suggest to stay away from dvd+r they tend to put a strain on the laser more than the -r. any dvd program you have that you are comfortable with will work. nero, decrypter, or even sonic. to name afew.
Try alcohol 120%.It has a ps 2 setting. Also i believe the brand of the dvd-r is important.Bought some some cheap dvd-r's and none of them worked. So try backing up with a resonably priced dvd-r.
is it OK to burn on 8x......cuz i have burnt above 4 games on 4x and they work....maybe 8x is ok as well ???
i normally burn at 2x or 4x and use dvd decrypter and definately use high quality media. the higher the speed you burn the higher risk of getting errors
ok, i have gone back and burnt some media.......but now i am having serious problems.....out of about 10-12 different dvd-rs that i have burnt, only about 4 of them work !!! the burnt them at 4x, cuz i dont have a 2x option...my pc can read the burnt dvds, but the ps2 doesnt read them, sometimes it makes slight 'clicking' or 'slipping' sounds.....i just changed my laser about 2 months ago, and hardly use it cuz i play off the HDD........i dont know whats wrong.....does the ps2 have such bad compatibility, or is it just me ?
i have had an image of soul calibur 3 for about 4 months in my ps2 and decided to make a hard copy of it....i have wasted 3 dvd-rs on it so far, with no success on the ps2.....
lastly, one strange thing i noticed...the manufacture IDs i get for the media, dont reflect the companies of the respective DVD-rs !! why is this ?
EDIT: some details:
sorry, i forgot to mention the techy bits...
well, i have a PAL (machine ID changed to NTSC through) PS2 v5/6 with Messiah chip...
i am direct booting the DVDR-s
i am not patching the games in any way (except DNA$ when needed)....
the few the worked were :
MGS3 Subsistence (Disc 2) *thank God :P* (first copy worked)
Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow (first copy worked)
Colin McRae Rally 2005 ((first copy didnt work, second did))
Burnout 3 ((first copy didnt work, second did))
those that completely didnt worked
Soul Calibur 3 (3 tries, all failed)
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (1 try, failed)
Killzone (2 tries, both failed)
need some serious help...
ok here is some more detail....
i got two media DVD-Rs, both shown in the attached pic....(i hope i am not breaking any copyright laws :P )
underneath them, i have also written their respective IDs....maxell's doesnt match...
on the maxell one, i tried burning soul calibur III ****again***...and guess what ? it STILL doesnt work !!!!!!!!!! thats 4 tries and still not working.....
i burnt at 4x -- 2x was not available
i have tried loading up the soul calibur 3 copies, through many loaders, and also tried to boot the ELF file, but they all get stuck as if their are some bad sectors....
is it possible to implant some bad sectors in a PS2 game ? so that if a copy is made, it always gets stuck ? cuz i have burnt this 4 times !!! there has to be some other reason.....
i remember that it was the Echleon release of soul calibur 3.....
on the Sony disc, i burnt a backup of SSX 3...it works partly....that is, when i load it up.....it freezes after the memory card loading...
i got it working online like this : i started this backup...let it load till the memory card loading part....then i take it out and run the original backup (non-DNA$) and let it continue from there....when it starts to play the ssx3 intro video, i take it out, and again put in the Sony backup, and i press X like hell to skip the intro (it cant play it properly)...
but anyway...is there is solution to all this confusion ???
