Im fixing some guys ps2.. I thought the laser just needed alligned... I did all of that and it still didnt work.. So i almost gave up... Then i decided to try a ps1 game and it didnt load, so i tried ejecting it.. The tray wouldnt come out.. So i flipped the ps2 over to loosen hte screws, and then the game loaded up.. The ps2 only loads discs when the case is completely upside down.. I tested it with ps1 games, ps2 cds, and dvds... How is that possible? I tried everything i could think of... I have no clue what is wrong with it... It works.. But only upside down =-\...

it sounds like you need to do some more adjustment...finer. Maybe laser too close to the disc now.

don't say that...there is still room for adjustment! Even turning one of the gears so that the laser reads the disc at an angle rather than straight on. It works sometimes. All I can say is...if it reads them when the conslole is upside down...then it would be more likely a adjustment issue. I thought maybe the magnet issue to hold the disc tight for spinning...but seems to me after thinking more about it that it would be worse with console upside down. So...theoretically, it would be just an adjustment issue. Hope that helps.

So.. how do i make an adjustment? Turning the white wheel didnt do anything... I literally did every single click and tested them with different cds... I read about something with screws that are under the drive, but i cant find the tutorial with pictures anymore...

I haven't messed with my laser yet (haven't had to), so this is just a guess.... Most CD Rom Drives have pots that can be adjusted to move the lasers relaxed position... try setting it so that the laser sits closer to the disc.... when the system is upside down the laser hangs down a little lower than normal...

some of us used to turn the PS1 upside down when using burned discs.

The problem is that the PS2 tends to wear out one of the two laser drive tracks over time. This causes the lens to slide slightly, and read inaccurately. When you flip the PS2 over, it switches over to the other track, which won't be as worn out. You need to fix the worn laser track.

    Hope that helps,
