Today I read something about "wears out the laser"?
Here is what this dude said:
"Invest in a hard drive for your ps2, don't waste money on coasters and burns that wear out the laser, and can skip and have problems."
Is this true?

i feel safer running off my hdd. but then again im on my 5th and 6th ps2 since release. 2 where stolen and 2 had dre that cleaning and adjusting the lens could not fix. ive had very good luck with my v7 and v9. i only use ty dvd-rs and never watch movies on there either.
basicaly if you wanna play alot of backups you need to invest in the very best dvd-r media you can
my 2 cents
If you use the laser, you'll wear it out eventually; how quickly you'll wear it out is the real question. I haven't played a game off of the original disc in months because the hard drive is just more convenient and it loads faster. It's kind of a no-brainer.
I have the slim version, so hd isn't a option. I do use Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R.
I don't think you can get any better than TY media. I think it's safe to say your laser will be fine.
Thanks Toma!
Using burnt media wears out your laser faster, but u can still replace the laser
if u can, use a hd
faster, easier, and saves your laser
as toma said, its a no brainer
all i can do is agree :P if u cant use a hd, use good media, or just use the money u save by using cheap media to buy a new laser![]()

but wat if u have a pstwo (slimline)? i have a slimline and i currently have a dms4
i have a HDLoader on CD with noname media. the size is 24mb (23.8mb dummy file). Should i burn HDLoader DVD image on name brand media like Verbatim DVD-R (MCC 02RG20) (size is 1.4GB i think)? i'm not sure if using this no name brand CDR media is gonna wear out laser then if i use the DVD-R.
I believe PSTwo has USB 1.1. HD via USB 1.1 (even 2.0) is sloow.
