v7 with no spin

I have a non-working v7 someone brought me. I can observe that with a disc in, it tries to spin and I can see the slightest little nudge when it tries. Without a disc in, the spindle spins pretty quickly for a second upon power up. Is this a weak chip? Which one is it? I have 2 Hakkos with chisel tips so it won't be hard to replace. But which chip is it? Or should I suspect the mechacon or something different? I tried to give it a fast spin with my finger to see if I could "jump-start" the spinning process but it didn't work.

I did some more homework and it looks like the BA5815 is for the tray and BA6664 is for the spin motor? I found a datasheet for the 5815 but didn't find a free one for 6664. Should I check pin 8 to ground on this chip? Then if its not grounded and no fuses are blown it can be nothing else but the spindle itself? I'm only guessing here. If anyone has the answer I need please chime in.

same for me

I've the EXACT same problem with one of my V7's. I've tried different ribbon cables, spindles, motors, drives, etc., etc...Finally gave up on it after spending a couple weeks inside of it getting zapped. Did you remedy your problem? If so, I'd like to hear how!

I had this problem on my v4 when my laser cable came loose. A bad laser/cable will cause the symptoms you described.

Does the laser make a nasty clicking sound when it's trying to read? If they eye isn't seeing media, it won't try to spin it.

I get what you're saying here. However, is the exact same thing going on when I have a disc inserted or not inserted? In other words, is the spindle applying the same amount of force for the same amount of time? Remember, it looks like it would spin nice and fast with no disc and gives just a nudge with a disc in. I sure wish 400c's were as easy to come by as Thomson lasers!
