Hello all...been a member here for a shortwhile ...still learning !!!
First...a question about my PS2.
1. My ps2 has recently been reduced to slow, hardly reading anything...it makes a loud " nun nun nun nun nun nun " noise ( like the lense is skipping or ?!?)....it will not read CDbackup/cd games anymore...and rarley reads DVD games...what actual part of the ps2 am i looking at replacing to fix this ?
2. In relation to question 1 , I have decided to get a network adapter, HD and HDloader to backup all my software...I have HDloader , winHIIP...the network adapter and HD seem pretty straight forward...but my only problem is about ripping my games first to my HD then swapping over into the ps2.
When it comes to ripping both CD games and DVD games alike...which is the best DVD read/writer to use ? + or - ? Any DVD reader can be used ? What speed etc ?
Do i rip into ISO or image file or cue+bin or what ?
3. After ripping the DVD game into a 3 or 4gb image/iso to my knowledge...its as simpel as using winHIIP to transfer over onto the ps2 format HD , then run with HDloader yes ???
Sorry about the simple questions...i am ready to do this...just need reassurance
Thanks again , Ben

well... not exactly the 'quickest' question i've seen
but nonetheless, for question one about replacing parts, since i've never had this problem i can't really direct you in any one place except to say that generally it sounds like you need to replace your lense (but i'm not for certain)
with regard to ripping, it doesn't matter what kind of dvd drive you have in your pc. you should use dvddecrypter to dump an .iso image to your drive. of course you don't need to do this as WinHIIP and hdl_dump both have capabilities of installing directly from the discs. there are only 2 cases where i can see dumping the material from the disc and those are if the disc is a dvd9 or if the game is dummied and can be remastered in order to save space on your hdd.
lastly, if you have your ps2 hdd plugged into your computer just remember to make it your slave drive (unless your on a completely different ide channel with nothing on it) and yes WinHIIP and hdl_dump can then install iso's directly to your drive. but remember that they can also install from the disc themselves, so you may want to skip the dumping part unless one of the two conditions described above exist. once you are done installing your games, simply powerdown your pc, unplug the drive, make sure you now set your hdd back to master! then plug it into the network adapter and start hdloader. it's that simple.
this is a great solution for ppl in your position, failing dvd-roms in their machines. now you can play all your games without having to send your unit out to a shop.
enjoy
