Just wondering if anyone knows whether or not a blown LA chip could cause a 'no video' problem. Everything else seemed to work fine on this machine (as I could hear it boot up the disc and load the game).

I thought I had read somewhere that a bad LA chip could possibly cause a 'no video' problem, but I would think if the LA chip is bad, then the disc would spin or load at all.

    Thanks

I doubt it is the LA as you can hear the game boot up,if it was the LA the game would startup at all(as far as I have read).

also did you check the fusses?

yup,... all of the fuses were fine. The reason I'm wondering is because I think I've read in two different places now that if the LA chip is partitally fried, it can give the 'no video' problem.

If you remove the LA chip completely and it then shows video then the chip is faulty. If there's still no video with no LA chip then it's something else.

Thansk Fluffy,... that's what I've read at another place, so I'll probably give that a try. I had to make sure though that firing up the PS2 without the LA chip wasn't going to hurt anything (which apparently it won't).

sounds like it can also be two bios wires crossing each other, try to limit bios wires overlapping each other usually fixes any of the problems I have had. If the game reads the LA chip is 100% ok the LA chip controls the laser/reading of the disc so if the game reads the LA chip is perfectly fine.

oops... my bad. I should have mentioned that this PS2 hasn't been modded.

But from what I've gathered, it may be possible that the LA is partitially fried - which would give the 'no video' problem, but still boot discs. I was just looking for some confirmation about this...
