V9 Post Romeo mod problem
V9 Post Romeo mod problem –
I did the mod but had a beast of a time with it. When I pushed the pin to the right to get it off the pad it got stuck to the pin next to it... I went to town on it with a desoldering braid and eventually got it free and lifted. I attached a wire and connected it to the 5v point and thought all was well. When I turn the system on I get a couple weak clicking noises, the eye lights up for a sec, moves up and down once or twice and that's it. Discs don't spin and the eject button doesn't spit the drawer out. The light flashes as if it is going to open, but never does. The pins next to the one I lifted (yes, I lifted the correct pin, 3rd up from the bottom on the right side) seem to be unbent/undamaged and still connected to the pad on the mobo. There doesn't appear to be any bonding of solder between any of the pins either. Can anyone help me out here and tell me what I could do to fix this or tell me what might be causing this to happen?
check that the pins are still not shorted to each other. double check that the pin is connected to 5V and that the 12V is still not shorted to the pin. also check the fuse next to the LA.
if that fails undo the romeo mod (carefully - you dont want to snap the pin) and see if it works.
Where is the fuse and can you tell me how to do it? I have a multimeter but I need to know the settings to use and where to put the red and black contacts. Thanks! I put the pin back on the pad, I got a little more action the disc spins a little bit but still wont load and the tray still wont eject.
What the hell is a romeo mod?
Romeo mod is changing the voltage of the LA chip from 12V to 5V, so that the LA chip does not receive enough energy to cook itself and the lens coil when the mechon crashes and tells the LA to feed the coil a constant high voltage current.
It is done to V9/V10 consoles when installing a modchip.
Ohhhh so since im not installing a modchip, i dont need to do the romeo mod?
