V9 modding problem Please help!!
V9 modding problem Please help!! –

Hey Guys
I have installed a few matrix infinities before without too much hassle aswell as loads of xbox mods.
Now I have a v9 silver ps2 here, modded today with a Duo2se, since modding it boots up fine, if I put in a backup game it comes up with the red insert a ps2 disk screen, however if I insert an original game it goes to the browser, says "no data" and then shows a gold disk and says "Playstation 2 disc" in the corner, so I select the disk and it does the same thing again. If I try a psx game it just says no data and does not show a disk.
Now this kinda leaves me to beleive it is reading the disk at least partially for it to go to the red screen with the backups and the fact it shows a disk after the no data msg with originals.
So anyway i thought it may be V9 Syndrome, tested the coils on the laser and they were both around 6 ohms which i presume is ok? I then reduced the resistance on the pots by 10% as they were both on about 1500ohms
and still nothing, I have also cleaned the lens.
Now there is nothing to say the chip is working, esspecially with how it reacts to backups.
Anyone have any ideas?
Regards

It's not the V9 syndrome. Remove the mod, to see whether the machine boots originals or not (I think it will not). There may probably be some problem on the CDVD/VIA points.

Thanks for the reply
At least I have somewhere to direct my attention now.
Are all the Cdvd points on the bios chip?
i think the "s" point may look a bit dodgy so Im gonna redo it and shorten the wires etc.
if the chip is not fully installed properly could that cause it?
I guess i will know after i desolder the chip
Thanks

Okay
Something else I completley forgot to mention, when it boots it makes a horrible screeching/crackly sound through the speakers on the TV, it's not the tv/cable as my other ps2 works fine

Ok
Also I have tested the points on the bottom of the board (the ones all close together) for continuity with the chip on the reverse side and all are ok and give a reading, So I guess those vias must be ok otherwise i would have gotten nothing?
Please someone give me some ideas

There is a solder ball somewhere, or you burnt the VIA's or if you used the cdvd controller then some of its legs are shorted.

Ok thanks.
Been looking at it for hours with no solder splashes or bad looking points, All the vias on the bottom have some link to the chip on the other side so surely the via must be ok?
Which is the cdvd controller? (big chip on reverse of vias?)
Thanks

Ok
Thanks for your help. I still can't get anything and still have that annoying screaching sound thru the speakers.
Does anyone have any diagrams for the via's? as in where they can be jumpered to.
Thing is, when I tested the vias for continuity, it gave it regardless of what pin on the chip i put it to.
Just seemed a bit wierd

Definitely sounds like you shorted something there!
