V9 console wont read DVD's

I got a silver V9 not chipped yet that wont read DVD's, it just stays at the browser screen and the disc spins and the laser lights up and everything but wont do anything. put in a CD and it goes the the red screen straight away saying insert a PS2 format disc because i only have backups of CD's and not originals so it obviously can read CD's.

I have cleaned the 400C laser, adjusted the laser sled and adjusted the DVD pot from 1600 to 1350ohm all to no avail. laser coils are 5ohms each.

Laser lights up and disc spins and can tell i have backup of a CD so does that rule out the LA chip being hosed?? i would think it does but what do you think? there is low resistance readings between pin 18-19 and 20-21 of LA chip.

What ya reckon? laser is dead? replace it?

have you tried a music cd - does it read it? it sounds like the laser is toasted though, esp if you've already cleaned it and tried adj. the laser sled. was the romeo mod ever done to the console?

console is unopened until now, i dont have music cd to test.
