Okay, I have a V7 which won't boot any dvd media.I have tested with a known working laser and a known working dvd drive (from another working V7) and it just turns and clicks a few times then gives up.I have tryed everything I can with Dampro's lenschanger but it did not help (even took the eeprom from the above mentioned working V7 but no go).Does not seem to be the cause in any case, as it reacts differently when putting a known incompatible eeprom in there.

    Any ideas?

Its funny how the moment you give up and ask for help, you end up finding the solution

There was a short on what looks to be a voltage regulator (little black 5 pin chip) near where the cable that hooks to the laser goes (BA 58 chip area).

    Works perfectly now

No way mate, I repair myself
I should have had the sense to check for shorts in the first place though, it obviously had a previous mod attempt.
