V7 with a MI 1.88 disk skipping
V7 with a MI 1.88 disk skipping –
I've got a v9 MI 1.88 plus romeo mod. This one runs sweet. Playing a dvd it's practically silent. mmmm...
For a mate I got hold of a second hand v7 which was faulty and dropped in a reconned laser which got it working. Then I wired in the MI and must have got better at soldering as it worked 1st time.
Only problem is that when playing disks the drive is working very hard. The laser is moving and jittering continuously. It will play dvd backups fine, and you can cue to the end of the movie fine. But as I say something isn't right because the worm drive motor controlling the laser position is working hard!
Incidentally I also dropped a new laser into the v9 bought from the same supplier and this is working fine.
Anyone else experienced this problem ??
More importantly.... How do I fix it?
I've changed the laser arm for a brand new one which has made the operation somewhat quieter, but that motor is still working hard jiggling the laser too much.
I've tried adjusting the laser tray tilt and even tried to tweak the azimuth.
If I adjust them it just makes things worse so it appears that the drive is already set at the sweet spot. ???
Any suggestions gratefully received.
