Anyone have any tips for scraping off the ground points w/o damaging?

Also, is it better to double up on ground points or not, and if so, how many alternative points are there?

    Thanks.

the whole copper strip going around the edge of the board is a ground. you just have to make sure you dont solder where the metal plate touches to it.

Shouldn't need to scrape them... use flux and they should become molten just fine. And prisoner is right, the entire copper strip is a ground, along with many other points. Check with a multimeter to be sure...

The ground wire is supposed to be short as possible tho, and that would require me to use the coppper strip on the right side of the board.

So it would have to go between the legs of the metal cover, and that seems like it might arc when the case gets jarred.

Does anyone have a pic of a ground solder to that strip?

    Thanks.

i personally use the ground strip running round the board if your wire is sheathed and you dont trap it with the grounding plate it wont be a problem.

umm guys!!! just a quick note - the ground wire can touch the metal plate as much as it likes!!

Seeing as the metal plate is grounded else it would not be much of a shield to EMI otherwise.

The whole reason why the edge of the PCB is bare copper is so the metal plate can make good contact with the bent over metal tabs.

Any other wire yes- avoid the plate but the ground wire can touch it as much as it likes with no fear of arcing as they are both at ground potential!

Okay, I think I get it. The bottom layer of the pcb is all copper right? Then they just overlaid the green surfacing and the circuits and all. So, when you're scraping off the layer of solder on the ground point, you're just digging down to the original copper plating.

And the green stuff would be what, just some nonconductive material?

I'm prolly either really hot or really cold.

I see your point but the main point is some people blob solder.

it would raise the grounding plate enough to stop heat despersing from the ee engine ba chips etc causeing major damage.

If you also trap the wire an peirce the sheathing it could arc ground to the board and cause major problems it's a common problem i see all the time.

Okay, so as long as i dont impede anything with any solder blobs or trap the wire, the copper border is fine to ground to right?

Underneath one of those flexible legs of the ground plate on the right side should work then.

Anyone got a pic of that point used in an install? Or does everyone use the recommended point.
