v5/6 Sanyo laser replacement
v5/6 Sanyo laser replacement –
02-03-2005,01:04 PM
Hi,
I've got a v5/6 300003R console with a sanyo laser. Recently it stopped playing DVD games and now it just reads cds. I ordered a new open faced sanyo laser for it. I haven't adjusted pots or any of the gears around the old lens. I was wondering will I have to adjust the height or anything for the new lens or should it slot in and work straight away??
Cheers,
Mickey.

No ,just replace with new laser and if ps2 don't read DVD games then adjust and look in forum for details in search mode.
Also you know that you can replase 400C laser in youre PS2 V5-V6?
Again search in forum I tested this is O.K.

Thanks, I'll try that when the laser arrives at the end of the week. I decided just to go for the sanyo laser 'cause I got it at a reasonable enough price, not much more expensive than the 400C version.

I received the laser and it works with original DVDs however:
It takes long time to realise that theres a disc in the drive i.e. it doesn't start spinnning straight away. When it does spin it loads the game fine if it is an original DVD game. If its a backup I get the RSOD*. If its a CD backup/original I get a disc read error. Should I:
a) adjust the CD and DVD pots or
b) adjust the white cog wheel in the drive mechanism
Any help would be appreciated.

PS *I know the RSOD could be caused by the mod chip not working but it was working fine prior to replacing the laser. I think its because it has to go to the browser to load a game (and takes a while to start spinning the disc) that this stops the modchip preventing the disc check. I could be wrong though!
