Well i got a ps2 for christmas (its a v4 second hand PAL about 2 years old i think)
and i have played san andreas for a good 1-2 hours every day if not more and about 2 weeks ago it started crashing then recently started making a horrible grinding sound when i turned it on it wouldn't read the disk and didnt come up with the red disk read error after about 40 seconds of it being on it started making a slightly quieter clicking noise i opened it up and cleaned the laser with a new soft cloth (which i know you shouldn't do) but i got it up to the loading screen then it crashed and started making the quiet grinding noise again and when i removed my disk it was all scratched round the edges despite being only about 2 months old i was reading an article on the internet that said something about ps2 not beign build for streaming games and the laser going to fast when its streaming san andreas etc. do you reckon replacing the laser will work or is my ps2 doomed and i have to fork out £135 for a new one if thats the case can anyone recommend a good place for ps2 slims or one that sells the old model.
Any help appreciated.
Try getting a Q-tip and some alcohol and rub alil on the q-tip and clean the laser, After that wait like 10-15 sec and get a can of air spray and spray the laser couple of times if not then used your breath and blow a few times on it, then get a dvd or cd laser clean and clean it afew times. Put a game in there and see if it works, if not then you need a new laser go ask netmech if he has a v4 laser....
re: v4 problems
I heard Sony can fix unmodded ps2s for free in the UK. But that depends. It does however work in Northern Ireland. You might want to call the SCEE number in your manual if you have it or check the SCEE site.
Read this FAQ. It adds some important info on ps2s having the DRE problem. You cant get the old ps2 new anymore. You have to buy it used or get a slimline.
thanks for your help guys
By the way does anyone have the England SCEE number as i dont have the manual
