My drive has the issue where it can't find the groove in the disc, dvds and cd alike. It just clicks and spins slow.

Q: Can a laser be "dead" if it is lighting up?

I flip the ps2 over while its opened up and when the disc is spinning and can see the red light reflecting from parts inside there. So I know its not cashed completely. I've tried adjusting the azimuth and the cog wheel and nothing seems to have an effect on this pup. Also tried increasing the laser current a wee bit.

Q: I have a scope. Is it worth looking at the eye pattern? would I even see the eye pattern if the dics is not found at all?

Does anyone have any other suggestions before I spring for a new laser (which costs almost as much as a whole ps2!!!!! )
