I just got a v3 from my friend, he "broke" it, but I thought I could fix it.

This was the original problem, this was pushed up, and wouldn't let the cd tray eject or close, but I fixed that, and now it ejects/closes without a problem (its not too fast or slow).

Is the ring around the thing that spins supposed to be loose like that?

Anyway, the disc just spins maybe 1/8, and the laser moves up and down.
If I push the laser all the way to the outside, and turn on the system, and close the tray, it will move itself back to the center and try to read the disc.

Just wondering if anybody had any clue in the neighborhood of help.

The system doesn't have a chip, either.

    Thx in advance.

You will need a replacement drive. I have some for $20 + 7 shipping.
The Yellow PS2 auto-boots all. PS2, PS1 stealth and DVD movies.

Thx for the offer, but I was thinking about it, and its not really worth fixing it any more.

I got it from my friend for $25, it was broke then (as stated above), but it didnt have a power cord, so I bought one of those ($6), then I had to buy a replacement reset/eject cable cuz I moved it too many times that it died.

    Thats $37. Plus a controller that's $25.

Now I'm up to $62. Then, when I was replacing the reset/eject cable, I broke the connector off the fan, and those go for round $20. Plus the replacement drive, $27.

I'm up to $109. Plus there seems to be a magnet of some sort cuz when I turn on the machine (boots into bios), theres this huge red blur on the left side of the screen.

Around here I can get v7's used (and working) with box and cords for $125.

I figure I'll just sell the parts and buy a v7 or something, least I know allot more about the ps2 then i did 4 weeks ago.
