if someone was to replace the SPU 3170 laser with the PVR802W assembly and didnt reporgram the eeprom or anything would the ps2 still read discs ok or not?
my ps2 keeps blowing lasers and someone else had it before me playing with it and im wondering if they swapped the lasers and didnt reprogram the eeprom or somethnig causing my lasers to blow every hour.

I had this problem. It was my h20 chip . Have you tried another chip in your console ? Replace the chip with a new h20 and see what happens. Let me know the results. I'm not 100% sure that the prob. with my ps2 was the chip but all test results so far are pointing that way.
