ok i got a v12 of ebay (faulty). i was planning on getting a new laser and just replacing it but now i am thinking it may be a difrent problem. (this is with the case of and the sensors down) when i put a game in and press power nothing happens no spinning or anything and when i go to the browser there is no data. if i power up without any disk in i see the laser move forward then flash on and off then move up and down. Can anyone tell me what this fault is. It has the spu laser and the person i got it of was selling 12 all with the same fault so it must be comon. here is a video of the the laser flashig and moving. http://www.thejenko.co.uk/v12 laser.mpg (not a big file) and here is one of it with a disk in http://www.thejenko.co.uk/v12 laser2.mpg (nothing happnes)

check fuses and check the tracking/focus coil resistors. It definately IS a common problem...there is one fuse I just don't know which it is...but yea it blows sometimes...check fuses!

its either fuse PS13 or the laser, end of story. ive done shitloads of these lately and found nothing other than PS13 or the laser to be dead.
just cause the laser lights up doesnt mean its working. disc should still spin a fraction otherwise PS13 is screwed most likely.
just looked at that video, looks like fuse PS13 is blown to me.

another thought, are both the lid switches closed when you turn the unit on? if they arent then the disc wont spin.

i dont think ps13 is blown but one thing i did also notice is that the actual spin thing is a lot stiffer to turn thanon my other v12. i think i will try the laser block from that in it but duno if iy will work being the 802w.

swaping the blocks worked. but i would still like no know if there is some way to check the laser because like i said the spinning part was very stiff compared to the other so the laser still might be ok.

well if you have swapped the block motor and all, swap back in the laser itself from the old assembly and see if it works. if it works the motor is stuffed, if it doesnt work the laser is stuffed.

sounds like the spindle on the motor got pressed down or something got lodged in it
