v10 dead –
01-13-2004,02:49 AM
Here we go again
I have a v10 dead with the same symptoms of the dead v9 syndrome.
I heared some more v10 are dead too around here.
On those consoles we used the hk version of M2 the ship that says on pcb MESSIAH 3.2H
I asked other installers near me about this dead v9 situation and i found something interesting.
i bought a batch of M2 chips and i sold a lot to others near me.
I've installed only 12 and i had 3 dead v9.
My cousin installed over 15 and had none.
Another installer had only one and this was the very first that he installed.
All M2 were the same, from the same batch BUT the installation wasnt the same. I used to install M2 chips on the empty space far away from the solder points, but my cousin and the other installer wanted to save some wire and they installed them near bios.
Its possible that the wires of the chip passes over some components that have been changed on v9 and brings that problem, or the wires have to be smaller.
I'll post some more results when i have some more clue.

Doesn't really matter where you place the chip. I placed that near to the bios and got a dead machine in 1 month. Another one was placed at the empty part of the motherboard, and there was another dead machine in 3 days...

Messiah 3.2 is not good (HK type)
it has problem at program (source code)
Mars II and NH8 are better than messiah 3.2
but what ever you use modchip, this time not good to modify ps2
sorry my wrong grammer I'm not american or living england

Ive had no probs yet, i dont think it makes a difference where you place the chip.

Agree, I have done a buch of V9 with MXL2 since November and only two of them gave me problem so far.
I still belive it depends also a lot on the people modding.
You need to have a light touch, a low power solder tool and a standard procedure to open, mod and reassemble the PS2.
Either this or I have been very lucky until now....

Guys - with all these V9's that you have killed or seen killed - anyone have spare V9 lasers that they want to sell?
I need one urgently for a customer but don't want for him to be r!pped off so a decent price would be nice. - let me know if anyone has one.
Still no dead V9 PAL stations here in Oz... makes getting lasers local hard... his dead laser was not due to installer error or the V9 syndrome - more bad luck with a Spider that crawled in there or cat hair - one of the two assisted in the process of the laser not working... spins, lights - but wont read.
