Im looking for advice on playing backups not how to do it but the best format.
Is it better to play on DVD-R or direct from a usb stick.
Generally im aware usb sticks are faster when used on a pc but wasnt sure if the ps2 would take advantage of this. Are loading times reduced?
I've always avoided disc backups. I haven't used them since the Dreamcast days for several reasons.
1) Cost of the media
2) Hassle of having to burn them correctly
3) Potential for disc damage
4) Potential for laser damage in you disc drive
5) Stacks of CD/DVDs laying around taking up space
Unfortunately I can't speak about your primary question about if the PS2 would see a speed increase over discs.
DVD backups will play best. USB stutters with low transfer speed. This causes FMV to stutter badly . BUT saying this using DVD's can shorten the life of your laser. depends on which model you have......
