A guy down the hall has a 50001 console that freezes after the loading screen in NCAA football 2k5. The console is unmodded and the disc isn't scratched too bad. When it freezes the laser starts making a weird clicking noise. I am thinking it could be the LA chip, or possibly a fuse. I haven't opened it up yet as I was wanting some opinions first. I have tried cleaning the laser and it didn't help. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

Is this happening with other games as well or just this game? If it's just this game then there's a chance that the game disc is just defected.

Is it still in warranty? What are you going to do when you open it? Check for fuse that's blown? I doubt it's the fuse. I think you should measure the coils and the pot. If it is still in warranty then send it to Sony. If not then check the coils. You might have to get a new laser if the coils are lower than 4-5ohms.

Thanks for the reply TO7N. I don't think it is under warranty still but yes i was going to check fuses and the coils to see if they are good(Diagrams are very helpful). It is ridiculous that sony put such crap components in the 50001.
