Turning PS2 off with Power Switch?

I live in a suite with 5 other guys. Two of us have PS2's while the others just mooch off of us. One of the guys in the suite is lazy/impatient and when he's done playing he simply flips the PS2 off then back on using the power switch in the back. the other guy in the suite who owns a PS2 gets really pissed about this and keeps bringing it up with the other guy. The other guy got tired of the bitching so now he plays my PS2 all the time and does the same thing. My question is, does it really matter? Does turning the PS2 off using the switch in the back hurt anything?

i have heard that it does but am not sure

well that wil be a debate for the ages. some like myself put it in stand by mode. that is hold the button until reset is red. others like your friend does the complete shut down. now from what i configure is if they give you the option to put ii in stand by for a reason. its still being powered but at a low voltage. while the main switch kills all power and when restarted power just surgs right up in the ps2. constantly zapping it. but if i remember the manual says if you arew going to play your system alot leave it in stand by.

a kid in school did that and after a while it started freezing.

if you're using a HDD, you should definately NOT turn it off by using the power switch on the back. I'd suggest you force him to use the reset button and if he doesn't like it to get his own. :)

Well if he flicks the switch fast(very fast)it may couse a power spike,and thats bad for the psu,I normally switch my mechine off after playing,but I always go to standby first,its just the way I prefer it.
