Trying to flip the shoulder buttons... –
I recently got a controller converter for my xbox because I want to play games with my ps2 controller but the converter i bought does not allow customization for individual buttons (i don't think any converters do) so i was asking if it's possible to open up the controller itself and tinker around inside to make L1 and R1 work as L2 and R2 and vice versa. I'm sure it's possible but just how hard of a job is this?
edit: some ingames allow customization for controls, but the one i want to play specifically with a ps2 controller (halo 2) does not allow remapping.

It can't really be done with a PS2 Dualshock because of the way the analog buttons work. But it is very easy to switch the L and R buttons on the PSone H-Series. The H-Series are easy to pick out because they are the white ones that were made to go with the PSOne. You can usually pick them up used for $3-4 dollars.
So I can change the actual function and not just the buttons?
You don't actually change the buttons you just swap the wires going to them so that it changes the function. On many Playstation DualShock controllers you can't do this because the buttons are on a flimsy plastic circuit board. But on the H-Series controller it is easy because the L and R buttons are on seperate circuit boards which are attached to the main circuit board by a ribbon cable. All you have to do is desolder the ribbon cable from the main circuit board and then solder it back on with the wires reversed. It is supper easy. There are a few other Playstation Dualshock controllers that have circuit boards like this but they aren't as easy to pick out as the H-Series ones are. If your unconfortable with soldering I can do one for you.
I'm sure I can do it. Thanks for all the help. Those goons at the Xbox forums just kept going "why on earth would you want to do that?". They won't understand.
No problem. Glad I could help.
You can also get dual shock 2 third party controller. The inside is the same as H-series and they are the very same shape as an original sony controller...
Which 3rd party clone are you speaking of?
Will the PSOne controller still work with my adapter since the box it come in says "PS2 controller > Gamecube or Xbox"?
