Is this true?

SCPH 5x00y cut the weight of the console down again (to me, it feels like half the weight of the model 30000s) and the fan is even quieter. The i.Link port (4-pin firewire, instead of the standard 6-pin firewire) was removed starting with this series. An infrared sensor was built into the system between the Eject and Reset/Power buttons, eliminating the need for an IR adapter in a controller port, as old systems needed to use a remote. This series also marks the first time the PS2s were set to blacklist known unlicensed discs from booting, such as Action Replay/Game Shark (they were the same thing since GameShark came out in North America, until GameShark2 version 3, which is actually another European cheat device known as XPloder, and made by Blaze), Code Breaker, XPort/SharkPort, etc. Only unlicensed discs newer than that PS2 model would boot on such system.


I have a feeling Sony starting blacklisting cheat device software much earlier it might explain why my v3.3 action replay cdx "made in 1999" doesn't boot on my v7 ps2.

I don't know where you're getting your information from, but I have a SCPH-39001 (V7) and SCPH-50001 (V10)

Both have almost identical weight, both can load a CDX 3.x version of gameshark (AR and gameshark were the same back then) since both were made by interact back then.

Mine doesn't even bring up the PS1 logo screen though or should I say "This Product is NOT Licensed or Endorsed by: SCEE" screen.

I also have a variety of older AR Max & GameShark discs and they all work fine in all my consoles , ranges from V4 to V16. I havent felt any such weight differences either.

I even have an old PS1 AR Max disc that loads just fine in all consoles, well a few dont like to read discs due to a worn lens, but when it does decide to read them, they work just fine.

What year does it say in your or on the back the manual for the ps1 disc? as well as printed on the disc its self.

A PSX Gameshark Lite will not work on a SCPH-77001 (v15). It boots, but with no picture and loops infinitely on the introduction fmv. Not a laser issue as it did this when the one I had was brand new & just out of the box. I returned it and got a used v7 cuz I couldn't boot my PSX backups without the use of the GS Lite.

Its from 2002 and says its version 4.20 in the options screen. I just checked again in my Sliver V16 slim and it runs just fine, can access all menus and select cheats and it boots the PS1 game without any problems.


I had posted a pic of the case in another thread , but dont remember which thread it was.
