Is there a way to remove or bypass the region protection without a modchip?
Is there a way to remove or bypass the region protection without a modchip? –
Just had a fella ask me whether or not it would be possible to remove/bypass the region protection on his PS2 without having a modchip installed.
He has a NTSC v4 PS2 and would like to play Japanese games on it. As far as I know, the only way would be to install a modchip, but I thought I would ask - just in case someone knows of another way around this.
Hdloader+ pc side game istallation program will bypass reigon protection on the ps2 side.
Thanks zaphod... but not quite what I was looking for. I was hoping for maybe a simple mod done to the mobo or something that would bypass the region protection.
like zaphod said, get any old 10 gb hardrive. Install your imports (1 or 2 games) and use HD loader.
Best solution, no modchip needed.
unmodded v10 PS2 NTSC
120 GB Maxtor Hardrive
HDL exploit (Key Launcher)
PS1 game: Twisted Metal 3
PS2 remote ( w/ reset button )
But you still need a broadband adapter, at which point it would be just as cheap to buy a modchip.
To answer your question Modicullus, I don't belive it is possible without the bios patching that a modchip performs. It is unlikely that Sony allowed a region change through a simple jumper or switch on the board, like seen on some older consoles (saturn and the megadrive come to mind)
Thanks darklegion... that's what I thought - but I just wanted to hear it from someone else. I wasn't sure if I had come across some sort of mod like that over the years or not. Guess not...
Unfortunately, the region protection and the backup protection are integrated completely. You can't just turn one offf without turning the other, and ot tunr off te no backup protection yo uneed a modchip.
There waas a special "antipiracy modchip" for the ps1 that was also full stealth. in fac,t it was the first stealth chip, and works with ALL anti-mod original games for your video standard.
unforutnately they were useless to non NTSC users, so the yfell out of favor pretty quickly.
Thanks for the additional info zaphod.
copy the game /movie and patch it , then use a swap method to boot ..
