    Hiya!

I have a v9 ps2, (since it was new) modded with a MarsPRO 603 chip and Free McBoot 1.8 installed...
Before the HD/FreeMCBoot installation, I would just tap the power button and the ps2 would reboot , nomatter if I was in a game or no. Now playing games via HDLoad, I find I must power-cycle the ps2 to exit a game and load again the browser... same when using uLaunchELF... is there something I am missing? A trick perhaps? a key-combo I do not know all those years?

thanks for any answer, and sorry for this basic Q....

This is due to some system vector bending performed by the HDD drivers. The intention of this is to ensure that ongoing HDD operations can flush buffers properly before the console resets or powers off, but a normal side-effect is that the ability to do a quick reset/reboot is lost.

    same when using uLaunchELF...
This is again a matter of what drivers have been loaded, and with uLE that is dependent on what you have done since launching uLE, and also on how you have configured it. If any configuration files (eg: skins etc) reside on HDD, then loading the HDD drivers at uLE startup is mandatory. But otherwise the HDD drivers will only be loaded when needed, such as for launching an elf from HDD, or when starting the FTP server (it needs HDD drivers preloaded), and of course if you use the uLE FileBrowser to inspect HDD content.

And like I said above. As soon as HDD drivers are loaded, the ability for quick reboot is lost.

This can also happen for some other reasons, but when you have HDD that's the most common reason.

is there something I am missing? A trick perhaps? a key-combo I do not know all those years?
Sorry, but no. Only the 'IGR' tool (intended for in-game resets) has some ability to reboot with HDD drivers resident, though it doesn't really make a real 'reset' reboot, but only relaunches a program. And since IGR has pretty bad compatibility to other programs, whether games or homebrews, I almost never use it.

No. IGR is a TSR program (Terminates and Stays Resident), which when launched will launch another program (usually HDL or uLE). Then you can use that other program to launch other stuff, either games (HDL) or various homebrews (uLE), and then use the IGR button combo to make it regain control of the console and relaunch the same program again (HDL or uLE etc). When this works right the effect is almost as if you jumped back to HDL or uLE from the game or homebrew you were running, though that run was in fact aborted by IGR which then relaunched the main application (HDL or uLE). But the problem is that the vector bending of IGR conflicts with many other programs, so frequent use of IGR leads to frequent crashing. But for the programs it is compatible with it can be very convenient.

Btw: The button combo for IGR triggering is the same as the traditional combo for soft-reset on a PS1.
    L2 + L1 + Select + Start + R1 + R2

Some version 9s had IR recievers built in, so if you have a learning remote or a sony dvd remote you can reset the console. I can do it on my version 9 with a Philips Universal learning remote.
Fat PS2, Nework Adapter, Maxtor 250GB HDD, FMCB 1.8, HDL, CB v10, SNES, PGEN, SMS

Even so, I don't think this would do what he wants. That reset method too must be affected by the loading of HDD drivers, either changing the response for a 'short' pressing from normal reset to power_off or changing it to be completely ignored, so that only the 'long' pressing for power_off has any effect. (Here power_off means switching the console to standby mode of course, which is exactly what keropi666 wanted to avoid.)

At least that is how I think it works, though I can't try it right now as my v10 is out on loan to a niece.
I'd like to be proven wrong in this though, as it would improve the usefulness of that v10.

Is this compatible with more games than the IGR that comes with Crystal Chips 2.0?
