So far, I've tried Gameshark Lite and Action Replay Max. The Gameshark would go black after start up, and play an audio only ad for itself. The Action Replay acted like it was going to work, but the codes didn't work after the game started. Is there anything that will work, or should I get a cheap PS1 for my cheating needs?

I use Codebreaker, Xploder, Armax for PS1 games on my slim PS2 using fmcb and an Original PS1 game to load

I can't remember exact versions, but you will just have to search somewhere on google to find the right ones.
