Hi! I'm looking to purchase a PS2 and had a question or two. The local store has a SCPH-90001 and SCPH-79001 silver version. I'm not sure of the real differences so wondering if one is particularly better suited than the other in regards to modability and such. I have read many threads here and elsewhere and just seem to end up more confused the more I read as to what is possible with each.

My initial instinct is that the older one (79001) would be the better purchase but just wanting to get input from others.

    Thanks!

Thanks. Unfortunately I went to get it after work and it was already gone so pretty much back to square one. Kicking myself for not getting it when I saw it. If anyone knows a place with old stock let me know! Everywhere else I've looked they just have the 90001s. Also a pre-modded PS2 isn't out of the question if anybody is selling those at a decent price (sub $200) send me a PM.

I did some more searching and found a store with a few SCPH-77001's so picked one up. Now to figure out the whole softmod (fmcb) thing. From what I've gathered I'll need to either have someone setup a memory card for me or do it myself with something like Swap Magic. Anyway, back to reading!

yup you are right. If you couldn't you could check the free service that this website is providing(Free FMCB Install service. FMCB aka Free Memory Card Boot is the softmod) You only need to pay the courier expenses(or transfer expenses. Sorry my english is not perfect).

Just check this thread and request there
