  1. #1 swapping ps2 v4 for v7 protection workaround
    addyirv Guest
    hi,

im considering swapping my new ps2 v7, with my cousins ps2 v4(he doesnt want to play backups), because of problems i get with splinter cell (have used quality media etc blah blah), not loading up and future copy protected games no working.

Im wanting to do this as, my friends both have a ps2 v4 with no solder and ar 1.9 and splinter cell works. I have been told that some games are copy protected and sony implemented new code in the ps2 v7 to stop copied games to work.

But my question is his ps2 v4 is 1-2 years old, it gets moderate use, will the laser be ok, and are v7 lasers better than v4.

Bascially do you think its worth (considering i dont want mesiah etc)

    Thanks

Why in the hell would you want to trade a V7 for an old V4?? And what is that ''protection'' thing you're talking about? There is nothing like that on the V7.

I think you would be better of getting a messiah 2, dms3, or magic 3.1 installed in your ps2 instead of switching ps2s
No swap mods have many advantages over no solder mods and this is one of them.

(I do think that no-solders have their place but no swap works out alot better)

apparently splinter cell problems are down to it doin an autorisation check once you try and save hence "red screen of death", most modchips swithc themselves off, and splinter checks this as well as an authorisation check to see if you have swapped.

i dont work for sony :-), but i was told by several people sony update the bios in v7, to allow them to have better checks for copied games and v4 doesnt have this on its bios.

Theres also the double swap check implmemted on some games.

But would the laser be ok in his v4, and is the v7 better,(obviously it is now because it brand new).

    Thanks

Been playing Splinter Cell DVD-R ntsc on a Version 7 PS2 with a Messiah 2 with no problems saved a few times but I am not very good and I have not gotten very far but mine works fine so far I'll try to beat it and let you know what happens

Splinter Cell doesnt work on a version 7 using swap magic because of the double swap check and nothing else

The double swap check only works against a gameshark and certain dvd-r games using the swap magic disks.
The messiah 2 and magic 3.1 work just fine you cant either chip for $35 and get it installed between $50-$70

Also I am pretty sure that a version 7 laser wont wont in a version 4 it wont fit

    Sorry Man

A version 5 doent have the double check in it.

Doest the AR 1.9 boot up for you (didnt know it worked in a version 7)?

    Things to try though

Try pressing x before the tray goes back in

    or

get the latest AR and try the Doubles swap method that involves
the armour core/ dave mirar code swap trick

Also do you have other games that work on the exact same type of media as splinter cell?
