Swap Magic 3.6
Swap Magic 3.6 –
I've just bought a second hand slim-PS2 7XXXX version, I wasn't aware at the time, but when unpacking noticed it came with the Swap magic plus 3.6 disc (only one, what I've read so far seems to suggest there should be two). I messed around a couple of years back with a fat PS2 and Action Max replay disc but never had any joy getting it to boot back ups, but this has renewed my interest. I thought with it coming with the swap magic 3.6 disc it should obviously have the magic switches installed. I've given it a quick once over without dismantling but I can't see any of the switches that don't require the case unscrewed.
I insert the swap magic disc, get the menu screen, I switch discs with a back up I've burnt at x4 and verified with no errors, I hit load and it doesn't spin properly, the swap magic menu screen returns an error of "Not a valid PS2 disc"
I've inserted the original game disc too instead of a back up, and the same thing happens.
(Should point out that games spin/run fine without trying to boot them up using swap magic).
Don't know whether it was a pointless thing to do, but I re-inerted the swap magic disc at the load point, and it load and the disc spun fine and reloaded swap magic.
Is it just a case that none of the sensors are covered because the magic switches aren't there?
Managed to for the most part, find out my own question by looking at which sensors need covered. None them are so I assume I'll rig that up with some tape.
Turns out the only disc I have is for CD swap magic.
I'm sure this would be less confusing if I'd bought the discs myself, they seem hard to come by now for PAL. I'm going to give it a go using the CD swap magic or my old Action Replay disc to load Free Mcboot onto a memory card and try the ESR app when I have the time and patience.
Thanks for links windrider, they were the most detailed I'd come across so far, the braker/front sensor seem easy to cover, the straw was the best way I've seen so far to get the micro-switch pressed in.
with that disc you should be able to install FMCB , then play backups without using sensor mods or swapping discs.
all you need is the newbie package a USB stick and a few minutes.
ESR comes with the newbie package then you need to find the ESR patcher which is linked to on this site many times.....
what you do is patch your ISO files before burning to disc. the patching fools the PS2 into thinking the disc is a DVD movie. then the ESR program boots the game...in simple terms that is...
you will also get OPL or HDLoader which will let you play games from a USB HDD.
do a search for my name and swapmagic.... i have written it out several times how to install with a swapmagic disc.... there are also tutorials around as well....
then it wont matter that you only have the CD. you will have FMCB and be able to do LOTS more..... also opens up homebrew to you etc....
