if the lens is the same type then I would put the v9 lens in the v7 and see if it works, if the v9 has a blown la chip and you put the v7 lens in it could blow that lens and now you have 2 blown lens, if the v9 lens is blown, putting it in the v7 wont hurt, that will tell you if the laser is ok, if the laser is ok, then chances are so is the la and must be different problem, measure coils on v9 lens if below 4 ohms then the la is possibly stuffed
If the lens if faulty, you are likely to blow the LA chip of any PS2 you put it in. The reason the LA chip frys is because the lens coils cannot handle the current the LA chip feeds it, and melt. Then because the coils now offers very little resistance, the LA chip feeds even more power through the coils, and burns itself out.
If one is damaged, you can bet a dollar that the other is too, and both will damage each other unless they are both replaced.
V9 PS2s just suck! Sometimes i have trouble booting backups!
I have no problems with my V9 console holding media.
I do use good media though, and I have also strengthened the top spindle magnet so it holds my CD-Rs better.
