Strange NTSC playback behaviour
Strange NTSC playback behaviour –

This weekend I got a brand new TV. A nice 68cm LG Flatron, component input, pretty sweet. I went to play Game of Life (NTSC PSX game) on my V4 PAL PS2 last night, and it came up in black and white! I thought "Oh crap, don't tell me my nice new TV doesn't handle NTSC...." and was ready to take it back and swap it for the Sony equivalent. Then I thought about some other games I have... my PS2 NTSC games like Capcom VS SNK 2, Super Bust A Move (yeah sad I know) etc all worked fine, in colour! Can anyone shed some light on this? Or should I say colour?
I reckon I'll end up converting the PS1 game to PAL, which should fix it, but I'm still curious as to why the heck it acts like this. Any ideas?

You need to do the colour fix on the PS2 because there is a bug in Sony's code that sets the wrong video mode for psx games.

So the PSX games send info saying they are PAL but send NTSC data? The annoying thing is that it all works great on a crappy old NEC 34cm Mono TV I have, lol... will patching the PSX game to PAL do it aswell (except obviously not for all games)?
