Hi- I am working on a version 9 PS2 and I can't get past the brower or splash screen. Do this things have a bios chip that could be corrupted and if so what do you do? Flash it or replace it? I may sound dumb I am kind of new to this. Thanks in advance for your help!

I bought this unit on ebay to fix. I could tear it down and take a look if I knew what I was looking for? Thanks for the help.

Really need as much info as possible on this unit if we are able to help you. Does the browser screen allow you to see the memory cards? can you hear the cd/dvd drive running? try putting the ps2 upside down and see if the machine will recognize any type of disc (dvd, psx and ps2 discs and audio cdrom) befor you take the machine appart. if you can get certain type of disc to run then you will probably need to adjust the lazer.

I take the machine apart and I see no evidence of a modchip. Everything looks original with no bad mod attempt. I stoled the laser out of this unit to put in another so I can't retest it. I tested when I bought it and I got ten seconds into the brower and it froze. I was using a PS2 game. Can the bios chip become corrupted? Thanks for your help.

A bad bios would make the whole thing dead in 99% of cases.
