Something new in a 35001 ( battery)

hey i opened my buddies case to clean out his ps2 and show him how to boot backups with out a flip top or mod chip and right out of the shoot i saw something wierd thier was a little chip on the side right next to where the power buttons are with a ( what looked like) bios battery (it had the ps1 logo "PS" on it) and i have no clue what it does and if its suppose to be thier its a 35001 and i have had two of those and never seen anything like that what is it

it's normal every ps2 board has it on v4s it's mounted on a seperate board

but i never had it in that spot ( never seen it ) onmy 35001

ive seen that on 2 v4's (my old + new one)

thought it waz normal :o

it slides onto the dvd drive
