Softmodding a "virgin" PS2 Slim to play games.

I currently have a "virgin" PS2 Slim model no. SCPH-75001 that I want to soft mod to play some game isos I have on my computer.
I can not afford to buy anything extra to do this. So I'm hoping this site is the place I need to be asking.
I have a DVD burner, flash drive, and a external* Hard Drive.

What do I do first? What guide do I follow?
I soft-modded my Wii recently so I somewhat understand but I don't want to risk my PS2.

I would use my PCSX2 emulator but it sucks so this is the choice I am going with.

The first thing you need to do is get an exploit working. This will allow you to play homebrew programs to do anything you want to do. The best exploit is FMCB. It can be tricky to install, but there are many different ways to do it so you can probably figure out something. Some of the homebrew available is ESR, which will allow you to play properly patched backup disks, or OPL, which will allow you to play iso files from a usb hard drive or through a shared file on your computer. There are also many other homebrew programs available, but your first step is going to be to install FMCB.

Guys, you are forgetting one important step: How is he going to install FMCB if he doesn't have a third party tool to do so? Lucky for me, I bought swap magic 3.6 a long time ago online, and I used that to install FMCB.

My friends who have no mod chips or AR max or swap magic, I help install their FMCB, and I've done a few for my youtube viewers as well.

There are games that are working (by ripping and modifying the .ELF and reburning), so you don´t need 3rd party tool... :shhh:

You say you don't want to buy anything extra, but neither do you want risk. The ideal solution would therefore be for someone else to install FMCB on your memory card for you.

The cheapest way is probably the swap trick, where you burn an exploitable game iso like Agent Under Fire after modifying one of it's elf files to boot ulaunch. If you don't already have a compatible game then Agent Under Fire is dirt cheap (picked mine up for £1.50) and confirmed working. Unfortunately, this method involves swapping out your retail copy with the exploit disc while it is spinning at a precise time. Some people find that hard. This is the method I used myself because I couldn't find the right cheat disc to buy and didn't want to spend much money. It is dangerous to the spindle motor and not something I would recommend. However, there has been no lasting damage to my PS2 it seems and I've been playing it 100s of hours since then. I even opened up my slim PS2 and documented a methodology for sensor modding. If I could do it anyone can. The warranty was expired anyway. Have to say it was worth it to get FMCB on my mem card. ;)
