Everybody associates him with them, but why is this?

Also...everybody criticizes them, I use the SM and slide card

This will be off-topic I am sure. Why do you ask this in THIS section ? Do some search for answers anyway. Tha main problem is not SM (though they are far from perfect and are a crap compared to the final solution a reliable and stable MOD chip) but the way how someone cares about their members on some OTHER sites. I said it is totally off topic, and I won't go into details, nor will answer any silly question like this anymore, as this is a totally wasted time.

    regards, Stephen

Because he is the one responsible for the manufacture and distribution of the lids. The first batch of flip-tops even had a big "Z" right on the top. They are generally regarded as garbage because they damage your laser and shorten the life of your console.

Mod chippers frown on flip tops as it's a hella ghetto way of doing things. Plus it's insanely inconvenient... and lame. In relation to Z, he bans people from his forums because they frequent "rival" forums.

    To each his own.

Actually, what is frowned upon is using something that is, without question, bad for your console, which the swap-based mods are.

is it the physical swapping that is bad, or the removing of some internal plastic parts that hold the CD in place bad? cause i use a flip top, but havent actually swapped anything in a while now that i have hdloader and execftp... would it be better if i put the old lid back on?

my cousin has had a fliptop for almost 2 years and he has no problems.. i've been using one longer than he has with no problems.. i dont see how it damages your console, unless you leave it open and let it get dusty..

It's akin to ricing up your car, some people turbocharge their engines for the BOV sound, others just put speakers under their hood which make the PFSCH noise. Both accomplish what their owners intended (the BOV sound), but COME ON, SPEAKERS?!

Well, I believe the reason people say it hurts your laser..Well, think about it before I give ya the obvious answer ...

Okay....Still haven't got it yet? Becase theres 2 discs! You first load the Swap magic, take it out, load the game...Otherwise, you just load the game using a chip. Really, I doubt it'd take that much more out of your laser, but that is the most obvious answer I see. Of course dust would get in it as well compared to factory lid.
