Another thread has been made about this but apparently Modchips are now illegal in the U.S. although I see people still selling them on their websites and none of you guys seem to worried. Am I overreacting? I imagine if your like me then you get most of your buisiness to public advertising, (newspapers, etc.) I imagine they'll just warn you the first time and that's it This is gonna put a major dent in the cash flow for many of us of us that install full time?

Modchips have been illegal. The only way of legally selling them is by selling them without the security bypass code preinstalled on the chip. This is what is done with a lot of XBox modchips.

yeh but thats not the case with ps2 chips , modchips were a "grey area" for a while but they were confirmed illegal in most parts of the world over the last few years...I wouldn't worry bout it too much just buy what you need from someone on the board

I'm actually in Canada too but was going to down soon to get some American cash considering the exchange rate. I wonder how many of us are canadian? Probably under 10% and the fact that we can go and rake it in until if and when they become illegal here. I guess it was inevetible that it happened and it took awhile too. I've been doing mods for about 3 1/2 years now and made a few bucks doing it so it's been worthwhile. A few Americans will no doubt move up here and mod.

So should we expect the Modchip makers/sellers/installers go the way of that isonews guy and get throw in jail for six months/ fined fimed/heavily and on probation for a decade plus thousands in legal fees. Although he probably was doing it on a tens of thousands of chips most of probaly won't get thrown in jail, but still it won't be fun.

So are shops going to be closed, ads in papers be answered by lawers, cops, sony, etc. The whole buisiness part is going to word of mouth. I imagine you could still do alright that way, but never as well as you once did, or could have did.

Where are you other Canadians, I'm in Saskatchewan.

Uhh...I got no problems with Canada, but you seriously think people going to move from there houses to move to Canada so they can install modchips legally? LOL...what the hell?

BTW: If modchips are illegal Sony sure as hell don't do much about it...Other than what happened on ISOnews there hasn't been much to stop modchips. Huge companies still selling them, premods, etc...
PLUS, even backups aren't completely illegal...Your aloud to have a backup of a game that you own...Your aloud to even have a backup of a game you don't own as long as you destroy it within 24 hours (after 24 hours it's illegal)...
But until Sony starts cracking down on modchips NOBODY CARES...
