Smartchips - can they be disabled for online use?

Well nick - here is your chance to help.

If not then Hull_chipper - are you aware of anyway that these chips can be disabled?

do they even have the feature?

would be strange if they don't considering all other chips for the last 6 to 12 months have had this feature.

should be just hold reset . but i haven't read nethign about a stealth mode

no they do not.....but all online games i have seen are dvd format, and if you boot the game as ps1/dvd it will detect a dvd and there will be no patching to the bios or dvd bus, which will be the same as a SLEEP mode on other chips..

yes but if it sees the game as a DVD movie it wont play it as a PS2 game will it?? i.e. it will come up with the white screen sating data or what ever that is and then jump to RSOD...? or am I wrong?

the chip just checks the CD/DVD bus for certain values that tell the chip whether or not it is a CD or DVD, if it's a DVD the chip does nothing....you can tell on smart/blue chips that the chip is in ps1 dvd mode by either
A. putting in ps1 game
B. putting in a dvd
C. putting in an original dvd based game( it shows a logo whereas when the chip is patching bios/dvd bus, it does not patch the logo, therefore doesn't show a logo)

hmm - well then - would that not also work for all chips then - not just the smart chips?

let me test... yes it does work with the BlueX-5/Smart chip so... probably would work on other chips as well.

so why does everyone bother putting in this sleep mode / off mode on their chips if it is just this simple for online games - as they all have to be original anyway...??

why not try to go online with original with the ps1/dvd movie method and see if it works...

well I don't think DNAS would be a problem in PS1 mode when using an original PS2 game!

think about it - all DNAS games are PS2 based - so with the chip effectively doing nothing and the game in the drive being an original - why would it not work?
