Slow Reading V7

I have a V7 PS2
It is slow loading CDs and DVD's
all I get is the PS2 Logo, then black screen

I treid using a laser from a working unit with same results
this is a non modded system

sure you replaced it with the same type laser ? if so make sure the ribbon is not damaged and seated , if not laser may just need ajusted .

tried a different cable as well

here is exactly what happens, on a PS2 game DVD
insert game and bootup
spinnign screen comes on, and it goes right to the end of the spinning blocks, all the time the laser is "clicking"
then browser screen comes on.
Wait about 3 seconds then PS2 logo appears and then just black, same with DVD movies
