    Yesterday I spent some time trying various things with my newly acquired slim PStwo console (SCPH-77004), which I mostly use just as a networked media player. I already have two fat PS2 consoles for other needs, but yesterday I decided to try some of that stuff on the slim one as well. But I was surprised to discover some weird limitations.

    I tried installing several CodeBreaker versions (hdlmod patched v9.2, v9.3 and v10) and all of them worked fine for launching DVD-R games through ESR. But none of them could work with USB devices (for Day1 codes and gamesave backups), and would not even boot correctly if any such device was connected. After checking out some cheat code sites I found that this is apparently a known bug in these CodeBreaker versions, which are incompatible with all USB devices on all slim PS2 models from SCPH-7500x and later. But I'm surprised that I never saw this fact mentioned here at psx-scene...

    Some rumours (started by Pelican staff) claim that there is a CodeBreaker v10.1 which can use USB devices on all late slim PStwo models, though they also claim it is only compatible with devices from two different manufacturers (one of those being Sony). But since I could not find a single post by a user who could verify that it works at all, I'm inclined to disbelieve it.

    If anyone can definitely confirm or refute the claim that v10.1 can use USB devices on PS2 models later than SCPH-7500x, and including SCPH-7700x, I'd appreciate it.

    Another odd problem which has consumed a lot of my time, not just yesterday but also when I first bought the slim console, is that the memory card slots seem to work differently from each other !!! !!!

    All my 8MB cards work fine in either slot, but my Datel 32MB cards do not work properly in slot 1, though they work perfectly in slot 2. I've tried this with two different consoles (both the same SCPH-77004 model) and got the same results with both of them. In slot 1 the Datel cards may occasionally function well enough to boot FMCB, or to show contents once in the browser. But trying the same operation again (like just exiting and entering the MC browser) will mostly fail even then. And yet the same MC works perfectly when inserted in slot 2.

    This is another problem I never saw described, so I'd appreciate it if other users of the same PStwo model could confirm (or refute) that Datel 32MB 'Max Memory' cards there have the same problems I've seen.

    Btw:
    That problem is especially serious when using CodeBreaker, as it forces me to use an 8MB MC in slot 1 where CodeBreaker will use up much of the space for storing the cheat database (as soon as you save even a single custom cheat, which I have to do, being a PAL user). That's bad enough for v9.2 or v9.3, both using appx 1.3MB, but it's horrible with v10 which used 1.8MB... Fortunately it's possible to get some of that space back, by deleting unwanted database entries.

    Best regards: dlanor

    There's a new version of GameShark Cheat Codes that supports the slimline it's also listed as being incompatible with the PS3

    http://store.gameshark.com/viewItem....medium=website

    Here's a pic of the old version

    I have no info about Xploder V5 Media Centre or AR Max Evo though.

    @dlanor
    Unfortunately, There is NO fixed for CodeBreraker v7+ (7, 8, 9, 10)'s USB function with Slim PS2 models 75000+ or newer.
    and Performance Designed Products LLC has official discontinued their CodeBreraker products as of July 22 2008

    @kevstah2004
    AR Max (all versions including EVO) and Madcatz Gameshark (all versions including Xploder) will work on all version/models of PS2

    As for PS3, due different hardware configure and only PS2 cheat device I know to works is CB (8, 9, 10) on PS3 20GB & 60GB models

    Reason AR Max and GS/XP doesnt work on PS3 because they depend on other data.

    I don't recall asking for any advertisements of any products whatsoever...

    No offense, but Gameshark is of no interest at all to me, even if it was sold over here (Sweden) which it is not. The CodeBreaker versions I have work fine with all my consoles, except for their failing USB access on the SCPH-77004. I will continue to use CodeBreaker despite that, as I don't really need its USB support. The only reason I posted about it is that I want to know the real facts on these compatibility matters.

    What I did ask for was information on two things:

    1: Does CodeBreaker v10.1 succeed in USB access on SCPH-7500x and later slim PStwo consoles, or does it fail just like v9.2, v9.3 and v10 ?

    2: Do others beside myself have weird problems with Datel Max Memory cards failing to work properly in MC slot 1 of SCPH-7700x consoles, though working perfectly in slot 2 ?

    I do not need or want information on any other products in this thread.

    Good, because I don't want any info on those.
    (And I already own that Xploder version)

    CB v10.1 will still fail USB access on SCPH-7500x and later

    Yes, deleting games from codelist will reduced size of codelist.
    (example: deleting 1000 games off codelist, CB file would be under 1mb)

    This is the first I've heard of the memory card issue in the newer pstwo's. Maybe EEUG can shed some more light on this since I know he has a nwer system he aquired for testing with SMS.

    Now regarding the USB issue on SCPH-7500x and later systems, I've been sent several personal messages from various users on oll of the forums I frequent regarding a few of the tutorials I've made even remotely touchiing codebreaker useage. That is also the reason why I had to add the disclamer on the FMCB tutorials at SKSApps on the USB problem, so it's by no means region dependent.

    If I can get my hands on 7500x or newer, I'll do some testing for you on this.

    @lee4:
    Thanks for the info. This confirms my suspicion that the 'rumour' about v10.1 fixing it was just a baseless lie from Pelican to attempt covering up their blunder.

    @kevstah2004:
    I don't really think that it's just a matter of 'new' USB drivers. Other programs (including homebrew) do not need newer drivers to access the new slim PStwo models. As far as I know it works fine using the same old drivers that were used for 'fat' PS2 models.

    @bootlegninja:
    If you and/or EEUG could test the problem I had with the Datel MCs that would be great. I need to know if this really is a model incompatibility, or just a problem with the two SCPH-77004 consoles I tested.

    I stored my Codebreaker ELF on a 16MB memory card in slot 2, don't use it for gamesaves so plenty of room to store CB database and works fine.

    You would of thought they'd add the feature of saving / loading the codelist from usb in codebreaker v10.1 but no they where too lazy, AR Max has this feature but it's near pointless as you have to encrypt all your codes to their own special format which makes testing random raw codes infuriating
    also cmgsccc and codejunkies suck for codes http://www.codemasters-project.net/vb/ is where it's really at.
