Well..........I am thinking of getting a modded PS2.

    I live in India...and am getting a modded PS2 for around $300.

The guy who is selling these modded PS2s imports all of them from Hong Kong or somewhere......and he states that there is an NH3 installed.....

But I have come to know that NH3 is not that stable and good as compared to the Messiah 2.....so I told him to give me Messiah 2 on board....and he said that it will be okay......

But then again...I am thinking of getting a DMS3....and have still to ask this guy whether he provides DMS3 on board or not.....

But Now...I came to know that Sony is going to issue NEW PS2s with improved laser and DVD playback and a DVD remote or a network adapter......so was just thinking which one to get....

Over here in India, Sony has not even introduced the PSone in the local markets.....so there are only Hong Kong DVDR and CDR Silvers and back up copies and modded PS2s.....

So was just thinking when is it (SCPH 50000.....this is the new one..right...??) going to come out in Hong Kong or somewhere near it and which modchip wil be good for it......

Should I buy the one that he is giving......or the new one......coz.....I don't think I will be able to play online games with backups and I can't wait any much longer.......as I am very desparate to play the titles which I have missed......

Sorry for writting such a BIG topic......

    Thanx in Advance.....

I say now, even though you haven't got the ps2s with "better" lasers yet. Nows a pretty good time with all the upcoming BIG games coming out for ps2...

plus the new models may need all the chips to be re-designed and there could be a delay while the chip makers update their chips.

Yup, so no real need if you are wanting a better laser.
The Yellow PS2 auto-boots all. PS2, PS1 stealth and DVD movies.

This is difficult situation on what ps2 you want to buy. If you are getting a dms3 ask the retailer if it's a v2.0 chip because dvd-r will have problems with the older dms3 (v1.0). For messiah2 just ask them if it's a v1.30 because the new ones play dvd-r. Just get a current ps2 and tell them that you want either a dms3 v2.0 or messiah2 v1.30 because you want dvd-r capabilities. I hope this helps for you.

I deleted the post about HK Silvers as it breaches the forum rules.

In response to the substantive question, the people from whom you import the chipped PS2 are unlikely to provide a genuine DMS3 or Messiah chip. These are the best choices for you to play your backups (Silvers, esp, DVD9).

If you buy a 50000, it will be NTSC and you won't be able to play DVD movies as you are a PAL region and those movies can't be played on an NTSC PS2. So avoid that model - modchips are not verified to it ayet anyway.

If you buy a 3900x, your best bet is to get a 39006 model (HK/China) which allows PAL DVD movies to be played. The native game recognition is for NTSC-J(apan) so it will need to be chipped to play backups.

Order the chip separately (DMS3 or MEssiah2 - these support the latest v8 PS2 models) and have someone with good soldering skills install it for you.

It will cost you around 25% more to do it this way but the result will be what you want.

Does the NH3 supports v8 PS2s......I mean will I be able to play DVD R using NH3 on a v8 PS2..??? I just want to make sure this because if NH3 is not supported, then I can be sure that they are not giving me NH3....

Again...how do you recognize whether its a v8 or other version....??? Will it be 39006 model....??....I just wanna know which version I am receiving from them.....

If you are getting a pre-chipped 39006 then you won't know whether or not it is a v7 or a v8 unless you open it up. So provided you trust your supplier then whatever no swap chip is in there, it'll basically do the job.

If you do open it up, look for GH-022 on the motherboard and B...090 on the BIOS chip. Then it's v8. Perhaps take a photo of the chip too. If it's B...080 or B....070 it's a v7.
