Safe to chip v9 or v10?
1. What versions (v9 or v10) is this NTSC PS2?
Model #: SCPH 50010/Date Code: 3C/Serial #: PU6xxxxxxxx
Originally I thought it was a v9 but with a serial number
starting with 6 - is it a v10?
2. I have heard that v9/v10 have had coil/laser problems after chipping (especially PAL), so.....is it safe to chip with M2 Pro v1.33b or DMS3?
Any help would be appreciated.
Use a DMS3 on it, have it professionally installed though, since V9 and V10 are really sensitive and hard to mod. I recommend Loy, LOD, or Netmech.
i second the dms3 .. btw you have a v9 ..
If you really want to hack your v9-v10 safelly,
then I would suggest you to use No-Solder solution!
Of course you will have to play all your backups with 1 easy swap
with Swap Magic Disks and slide-tools or octapus#0...
till you break that little white pin and your tray wont come out any more , or you get fed up with doing triple swaps to get games to work ..
Can't belive some people are still using Swap systems.....
I can't believe they'd recommend it OVER a no-swap   :p
I am not talking about slide tools that are really a pain in the ass,
but for no-swap modchip that is installed inside the console
and open/close the tray automatically for you to do the swap.
Now, as a safety solution, no-solder modchips are the best.
The code that is needed for the backups to boot,
is taken from the swap magic disks (it is like you boot an original game),
while the no-solder modchip takes only power&ground from the mainboard, to open/close the tray without ps2 understand it...
I know what they are... I had one in my old v4. Swapping is in the past as far as the PS2 should be concerned. Anyway, I'm not going to wreck this guys thread with a mindless debate.
DMS3 v9 shouldn't cause you problems provided you get a good installer to install it (LOD, loy, Netmech). And use good media, Riteks, Verbatims, TDK, etc. etc.
Oh, and psxforever and canmod (other installers) are Canadian, if you'd rather get a good ol' Canuck to chip it for you :)
