Well it finally happened. My PS2 has succumb to DREs on CDs, and it's only time before it happens to DVDs too. I could try repairing it myself, but I think it would be a lot easier if I could return it for a brand, spanking new system.

I want to buy a new PS2 from Wal-Mart, remove the warranty and model stickers from the back with a hairdryer, place them on my broken system and return it with everything in the box. What are the chances of this working? Are there any visual differences with the new batch of models aside from the stickers? I'll probably use cold hard cash to pay for the new system, so would I get cash back or just store credit?

I know this may be a little deceitful.. but so is selling consumers products that crap out in a year.

    2. An Associate will issue a credit to the original credit card or provide a store credit for the cost of the item and the sales tax, if applicable.

Looks like I answered one of my own question. But I'm afraid that if I charge it, they'll keep track of what I returned and screw my credit when they see it's a different model. Or are they not that smart? My thoughts are that if the external appearance is the same, there isn't much to worry about.. Still I'd like to know.

yeah you would be able to do it but its just easier to put a new laser into it.
I thought saving 15% on my car insurance was good but having my ps2 modded by N£TM£ÇH was way better!

*watches the Irony Fairy take note of FantomX's plight.

The Irony Fairy floats over your head and sprinkles dust on you and out of the blue the clerk decides to give the ps2 a 100 point inspection.

With your luck, it'll be some bitter ex-modder who hates any reminder of what he used to be working the service desk.

My advice would be to go to some small town, like Buttf@ck, Mn where it hasn't filtered down to them yet that they're supposed to verify the serial # on the box with the one on the receipt.

Lucky bastard. I tried the "Walmart Swap" as you call it and they gave me a PS2 instead of $$$$ Now I have a PS2 collecting Dust.
