Ok so i had a bad v5 mobo, got another v5 shipped today.. set it up and it doesnt read discs... sometimes it will click a couple quick times then stop spinning other times it will keep spinning.. ive heard that some v5 mobos only work with certain lasers? is that the case? This all started when a mod went bad... games worked perfectly fine before the mod attempt... can anyone help?

Hmm, V5s came with either the open-faced laser or the typical KHS laser and the two are not interchangeable. Do you know what laser you have and if the board you bought is from a similar PS2?

i believe its open face... it has yellow around the actual lens... actually the guy i just got the board off of said it was an R laser the board had before... now im not sure what i had originally in mine... like i said has the yellow around the actual lens..
if im using the wrong laser is there any way around this other then buying a new laser?

It sounds like you have a KHS series laser, especially if the lens is the only thing you can identify. There were a couple of threads regarding some kind of conversion, so you can search for it if you want.

hrmmm.. seems there is a way to convert on v5 boards.. i know a little soldering skills but i dont see how to remove that tiny resistor... im assuming just break the 2 solder points that would be reversed... hrmmm

Sounds like you're going to need to buy a khs 400-c laser.
