Removal of borders on flat screen TVs?

As I'm sure you all know, when connecting a PS2 to a plasma or LCD, there are signicant borders on the left and right of the screen.

I have been told this overscan is to compensate for standard CRTs not displaying all of the image.

Is there a way to change the PS2 output to get rid of the borders? Not only are they annoying, I am a little concerned about possible screen burn on my plasma.

Does anyone know of an elf you can boot from launchelf that changes the PS2's output to remove these borders?
