    How would we know?
"Video games don't affect kids, I mean if Pac Man affected us as kids, we'd all run around in a darkened room munching pills and listening to repetitive music."

I think this answer all questions:
"DMS3 Software v1.3 will be available for download shortly. The only difference between 1.2 and 1.3 is improved disc validation emulation to help hide the chip whilst running the PS2 in PS2 Mode"

    ok...
thats really interesting, because 'shortly' means almost 2 month now. Furthermore, if the update wont bring the fix for NTSC-PS1 games on PAL PS2s with it, the dms3 chip wont stay any longer in my V4..too bad.

    sure, its pretty simple.
Things you will need: A Pal PS2 (V4 confirmed), a DMS3 Chip (Hardware 1.0 confirmed) and a NTSC PS1 game.
Just boot up like you would normally do with PS1 games and watch the happening: The game starts but in PAL 50hz mode with big bars - like a bad adapted PAL game. No more 60hz fullscreen NTSC output. Someone claimed that this will be resolved with the next DMS3 update. Thats 1,5 month ago though.

However, you might not want to swap it for a Messiah2 if you have a V4. It has an output flaw with PS1 games, too: It sets the video mode to 30Hz interlaced (60 fields per second) instead of 60Hz progressive (60 *frames* per second, half vertical resolution) as most PS1 games use, producing an ugly picture. Might still might be better than 50Hz.

oh, didnt know that there were any issues with that chip as well. So, this only happens with V4 machines ? What about the Sniper 1?

I can confirm it happens with japanese V4 machines. I may be able to make a statement on a US-V4 machine tomorrow.
