I mainly repair C-lasers of which the laser diode has to be replaced.

    1) Measure the coils, to be sure they are above 5 Ohm
    2) Solder a 'new' laser diodes in the laserunit
    3) Put the CD/DVD laserpots on 2000 Ohm
    4) Decrease the resistence on the pots gradually, just to the point at which they can just read CD/DVD's backups.

When I keep this pot resistence value, the C laser might fail after a couple of month to read CD/DVD's.
I was thinking of looking at the highest resistence of the pots in order to read average backup media successfully, and then decrease the post resistence by 10%, to make sure they do not have to be adjust within 1-2 year.

What do you do when you calibrate the refurbished laser ?
Also want to know, is it possible to buy NEW laser wafers (laser diodes) for C laser ???
I know that many of them which I buy, came from old lasers.

I am looking for new ones, because I want to keep happy customers.

theres a guide (somowhere) about how to bring life to a dead laser, it involves cleaning the other lenses and mirrors (or somthing like that)

This may help you lasers last longer aswell

you idea for non adjustment may have a basis, but i dont know if 10% is too much, as the higher the power, the faster the diode fails, so maybe only 5% or somthing may be better

I tried to transplant a laser diode chip before with no success. How do you glue it in place as accurately as the factory? It needs to be in the exact right spot.
