I have a V9 Console SCPH 50003 - It currently has a KHS400C laser which has died because of its use and i need a replacement, mrmodchips.co.uk sells the R Type lasers for slightly cheaper than the 400C.
I have heard that if i use PS2LensChanger and change it to the R Type laser and then fit a new R Type laser all should work ok and i should save a few quid.
Is this true?
400C and 400B will work as far as i know...
The 400B doesnt fit though so thats a no go.
well, if the B type does;nt fit and the R type does then, buy it and install...first try running as is, if it does'nt run then use lenschanger and it'll work..
Why would you put an R instead of a C? The C's are more reliable, aren't they?

Uhhh, I've used 400B's for testing V9's many times. They do work, not that I'm saying you should buy one.
also, not sure if you know about ths but there are some things you should check on a V9 if at all possible before spending money on a replacement laser. The bad laser needs to be tested to see if the lens coils are shorted ( do a search) if the ciols are bad then the LA chip in the V9 board is bad! It is also a good Idea with any PS2 to test it with a working laser before ordering because Read errors could be a result of not only laser but spindle motor, worm stepper motor, drive alignment or motherboard failure.
and finally when you do install a new laser in a V9, the romeo Mod should be applied to the mainboard.
Romeo mod was applied a couple of years ago when it was chipped, the laser had just worn out with age.
Whenever ive put a 400b in it works but it just doesnt fit correctly.
get urself a 400c, best possible laser for the ps2
